Some of you may know this already, but I am in love with shooting film. Of course I don’t always get to shoot with it all the time. So that is why I use the next best thing… my canon 5D mark iii.
I started shooting film 10 years ago and I have learned SO much since then. I started out with a canon rebel T2, then when that got stolen I went old school with my canon AE-1. Which I am STILL in love with. For so long I thought 35mm was all there was until my lovely husband bought me my first medium format camera. A pentax 645. She did me good for a while. Then I sold that one and got my FAVE… the Mamiya 645 Super. Wow. This camera is what I like to call my “soul camera”. I have gotten some golden shots with this one. Although it sounds like a gun is firing when the shutter releases… it still takes dang good photos! haha
So that is my film camera history. But it’s not really about the camera. It’s SO about the way it feels when you take a film photograph. The way you actually have to “set up” up your shot before you take it. You can’t just “fix it in post”, you really have to think about what you are doing in the moment. And the anticipation to see what turned out and how they turned out is seriously amazing. I believe that film has made me a better photographer. TRULY.
I develop all my black & white film myself. But I am in the process of trying to find a good lab to do my color for me. I just tried out http://www.richardphotolab.com/ and the photos turned out beautifully.
Here are some of the photos they processed and scanned for me. They did such a phenomenal job! I would recommend them to ANYONE.
